TMI Schedules Fall Benefits Of Building With Metal Webinar Series

Glenview, IL – The Metal Initiative (TMI) is presenting its Benefits of Building With Metal webinar series this fall during the months of September, October and November. The presenter will be Scott Kriner, LEED AP, Technical Director of the Metal Construction Association (MCA).

The first webinar, scheduled for Thursday, September 9, 2010, will be Retrofitting with Metal Roofs and Walls Systems. By the end of this presentation, participants will have fundamental knowledge of using metal roof and wall systems used to retrofit buildings as well as recognize various applications of retrofit metal roof and wall systems. This presentation has been United States Green Building Council (USGBC) approved.

The second in the series, Metal Roofs and Walls: From (A)luminum to (Z)inc, is scheduled for Thursday, October 7, 2010. It will provide participants with an understanding of the basic differences between the metal roof and wall systems used in commercial buildings and the ability to recognize the design opportunities offered by these systems. Participants will also gain an understanding of the environmental and economical aspects of metal roofs and walls.

The third webinar, Building Green with Metal Roofs and Walls, will be Thursday, November 4, 2010. It offers participants a better understanding of how metal roofs and walls can reduce energy consumption in buildings, improve air quality and thermal comfort; help comply with energy codes; reduce environmental impacts; and contribute to LEED® points. This presentation has been USGBC approved.

PAC Solar Series Installed At University Of IA

The first PAC Solar Series project has been installed at the University of Iowa in June, 2010 by T & K Roofing, Ely, Iowa. Consisting of the Petersen Aluminum 24 GA Snap Clad Panel in 24 GA Black Galvalume, PAC installed 280 of the thin film photovoltaic laminates onto 94 Snap-Clad Panels at the factory to provide a total of 38 kW system for the Cambus Maintenance facility at the university in Iowa City, IA. Thin-film BIPV provides a unique synergy with PAC Standing Seam Roofing, combining superior panel performance with increased sustainability and energy generation. The project was funded under Iowa’s Public Transit Infrastructure Program and grants by the Federal Transit Administration. Project architect was Neumann Monson Architects, Iowa City, IA.
