A state representative from Michigan has introduced a bill that would allow local governments to implement LEED requirements, which go beyond state code regulations. The proposed legislation is House Bill 4775, introduced by Rep. Kate Ebli. It would give local jurisdictions the freedom to implement the legislation. In addition to LEED, the bill also references the NAHB Green Building Standard as a green guideline that could be used locally. The Mayor of Ann Arbor feels that the LEED standards could be used as models for local code officials to use.
