The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers has released a prototype of their building energy label. The labeling program is called Building Energy Quotient or “Building EQ”. It was developed in collaboration with the US EPA’s Energy Star program. It will be used to grade new and existing commercial buildings on both design energy use and actual energy performance.
ASHRAE is working with the real estate industry during this pilot phase to implement the label prototype in the fall of 2009. The plan is to launch the program on a broad scale starting in 2010.
