The LEED 2009 rating program now requires Minimum Project Requirements (MPR). The most significant aspect of the MPR is one that requires owners of all certified projects to provide energy and water use data to USGBC for five years from the time of occupancy. To enforce the new requirements, LEED has for the first time retained the right to revoke a LEED certification. The specific implementation details are not yet available.
USGBC prefers that a project certified under a Design and Construction rating system should also register for ongoing certification through LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (EBOM). Those projects could re-certify on a cycle that is as long as 5 years. Owners who do not pursue EBOM certification would have to collect and report their energy use data. One exception to this requirement is buildings that do not have their own meters, such as individual buildings on campuses, on military bases or tenant spaces in multi-occupied buildings.
Projects registered under any of the previous LEED rating systems are NOT bound by these new MPRs.
