The Green Building Initiative (GBI) announced the completion of the first and only commercial green building rating system to become an American National Standard through consensus development. The new standard is referred to as ANSI/GBI 01-2010: Green Building Assessment Protocol for Commercial Buildings. It was derived from the Green Globes environmental design and assessment rating systems for New Construction. The new standard was officially approved on March 24, 2010. Green Globes, which includes the ATHENA EcoCalculator Tool, competes with the USGBC’s LEED rating program.
