A new metal roof is believed to be one of the first formal collaborations between a city council and a college board.  The resulting new LaVista Public Library/Metropolitan Community College Sarpy Center is quite a showplace.

Located in LaVista, Nebraska, the two-story, 68,000 square foot joint-use project combines previously separate library and community college facilities.

Topped with 32,000 square feet of Petersen’s Snap-Clad™ metal roofing Panels with a custom brown PAC-CLAD® finish, the panels are 24 gauge Galvalume steel.

“The owners were very maintenance conscious and concerned about long term use,” according to design architect Steve Ginn, ZBM/Partners, Omaha. “At the same time, city officials asked for a building that would help provide an identity for the suburban community. The cascading roof and central rotunda provided the landmark look they sought.”

“It’s actually a very economical building to own and operate,” reports Ginn. “They got a lot of bang for the buck!”

Boone Brothers Roofing, Omaha, was the roofing contractor. According to Rich Boone, “This was an ideal design by the architect for a metal roof, although it did create some challenges. Our guys did a great job with the installation, particularly on the step flashing that ties into the ridges at the rotunda.”

“We have a great relationship with Petersen and tremendous confidence in working with the PAC-CLAD material,” says Boone.

The general contractor was Meco-Henne Contracting, Omaha.
