Elk Grove Village, Ill. (Sept. 3, 2015) – The Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association in July bestowed its Charlie Raymond Membership Award on Sal Delfino, technical manager, Petersen Aluminum Corp. The award is given annually to the association member who has recruited the most members during a calendar year.

The award was presented in July by Jason Carruth, the grandson of the award’s namesake Charlie Raymond, during the association’s awards ceremony and officer installation dinner. The ceremony was held July 17 during the 2015 FRSA Convention and Expo in Orlando. Delfino was accompanied at the ceremony by his wife Susan and daughter Samantha.

“I’m honored to receive this recognition,” Delfino said. “My involvement with the association is to help the industry move forward, and I will happily continue my work behind the scenes. I’ve been in the Florida roofing industry for 30-plus years, so everything I do at this point comes naturally, and if I can use my experience to help the industry associations, I’m happy to do it.”

During the award presentation, Carruth indicated that Charlie would be pleased that Delfino received the award. Raymond described Delfino as being cut from a different cloth than his grandfather, and being ‘quietly effective’ in his manner, while being an excellent ambassador for FRSA.

“One of Charlie’s babies was the annual Foundation raffle, and last year [Delfino] took the raffle ball and ran with it, selling more tickets than anyone else. His company is an avid FRSA supporter through sponsorships and advertising in Roofing Florida magazine. This is not surprising as I’m sure he learned the value of effective marketing when he owned a metal manufacturing operation some years back. That company was sold, and he now works sharing his metal expertise with others as a sales representative for one of the industry’s largest manufacturers,” Raymond added.

“We are proud of the behind-the-scenes work Sal does for the Florida association, Petersen Aluminum and the roofing industry in general, and we’re excited that his work is being recognized,” said Mike Petersen, CEO. “Sal has been a wonderful addition to the Petersen Aluminum team, doing excellent work growing our business in the Southeast. Congratulations Sal.”

Delfino sits on the group’s membership committee, unlicensed activity task force and the codes and regulatory compliance committee. He also volunteers on a codes subcommittee working on merging Florida-specific code items into the base International Building Code, “an onerous task if ever there was one. This also is not surprising as his involvement in the codes arena is evidenced by his constant attendance at Roofing TAC and full Florida Building Commission meetings. He is at all of them, folks,” Carruth said.
