A home in Mexico Beach, Fla., survived October 2018’s Hurricane Michael practically intact, thanks to owners who invested a little in upgraded construction techniques and materials. Extra-deep pilings, reinforced concrete and other tricks helped the home named by its owners as the Sand Palace remain one of the only surviving structures in the area.
