Petersen’s History
In February 1965, Maurice “Maury” Petersen rented a pie-shaped office in Chicago for $75 per month and began Petersen Aluminum to serve the needs of aluminum mills needing a distributor. The business grew quickly, and by July 1972 Petersen Aluminum relocated to Schiller Park, Ill., outside Chicago, to house its own aluminum anodizing line. Maury built the business on strong relationships, reliable supply and a relentless focus on customer needs. The unofficial company motto became “Work hard; have fun; no politics.”
Over the next two decades, Petersen Aluminum increased its revenue and added product lines, while also expanding geographically. In 1994, a new headquarters was constructed in Elk Grove Village, Ill., where it remains today. Over the years Petersen opened five additional manufacturing facilities throughout the United States, and when Carlisle Companies bought Petersen in 2019, the list of facilities expanded further to service North America.
Petersen’s Leadership
Maury Petersen led Petersen Aluminum from 1965 to 1987, when his son, Mike, took over as President and CEO. Under Mike Petersen’s leadership the company continued to grow its revenues from less than $5 million to more than $260 million. In 2019, Petersen and its PAC-CLAD brand of architectural metal cladding systems was acquired by Carlisle Companies as part of its Carlisle Construction Materials (CCM) division. Mike remained as President of the company until 2022. At that time, Mike Weis was promoted as its Vice President. In 2024, CCM united five exceptional companies, Petersen, Drexel Metals, Metal-Era, Hickman Edge Systems and Citadel Architectural Products, under one umbrella: Carlisle Architectural Metals (CAM). Shortly thereafter, Mike Weis became the Vice President of Sales for CAM, leading all five brands, 750+ dedicated teammates and 17 nationwide locations into the future of architectural metals.
