More than 33,000 sq. ft. of 24 gauge SNAP-CLAD™ Metal Roofing Panels finished in Forest Green were utilized on the new Sea Turtle Village and Cinemas project in Bluffton, SC.  The five buildings in the multi-use complex, all of which feature PAC-CLAD roofs, were constructed in a three phase process.

The five structures also utilized 17,000 sq. ft. of PAC-CLAD® flat stock finished in Forest Green and Aged Copper.

The project was designed by KRA Inc., Bluffton, SC.  Firm president and project architect Michael Kronimus and his business partner, Dan Ogden, have designed 450 cinemas around the country.  “We took the best of everything and put it here,” Kronimus said.  “It’s the most efficient theater we’ve ever built.”

The massive exterior walls normally seen at a large theatre complex are flanked and hidden by the other commercial buildings that include a variety of restaurants and retail shops.

The project was designed to be consistent with the “low country architecture” required by a local review board.  “We selected the Forest Green and Aged Copper colors to help the complex evaporate into the surrounding pine trees and to create an earthy tone.  The mass was also broken up by lots of hips and valleys and other complex details,” Kronimus said.  “The installer did a great job.  There were no issues and no leaks.”

Installation of the Petersen panels was done by Southern Roof & Wood Care Corporation, Hilton Head Island, SC.  According to David Swanson, president of Southern Roof, “This is a high wind zone so we put clips tighter than most people would.  There were also lots of challenging coping details plus custom gutters and downspouts.  The last two phases of the job were done after the theatres opened so we had pedestrians to contend with.  That’s always a challenge.  But the project flowed well and we got along great with the developer and the GC.  In fact, we’ve done several jobs for them since.  It’s a nice project that we’re proud of.”
